I heard about the course from a family friend and immediately become interested, I signed up for the pre session talk to see if it was something that I would like to start a career in.

After the session I came away feeling very overwhelmed and tried to think up excuses for me not to do the course… you know the usual, “can’t get the time off work”, “haven’t got the money right now”, “haven’t studied for a long time” etc. Then, I had a serious talk with myself and realised how much I didn’t want to be at my job and needed a career change and that’s when my mind set changed.

I signed up for the course 2 days before it began and barely thought about it over the weekend. Monday came with a bit of a shock as I wasn’t very prepared but to my surprise I was so interested, I enjoyed what I learnt and had actually learnt a lot about homelessness. Day 2, I was a little lost with learning eligibility but went with it and asked so many questions (poor trainers). I decided that I wasn’t going to understand everything straight away and I was okay with that. The next few days flew by and my knowledge and understanding for housing was growing rapidly-this was getting very exciting.

Week 2, WOW! Everything fell into place, things joined together and began making sense, even ELIGIBILITY! In the second week, we recapped what we had learnt in the first week, began doing some interview techniques and also role play calls. The activities built my confidence and taught me a few tips for the real deal.

During the second week, trainers and trainees helped each other finding jobs and posted them in a group chat. The last day of my course, I applied for my first job and a week later I had my first interview. Today, just 11 days after completing my course… I have a job! The job role that I wanted and also in the borough I live in.

I am so thankful for my trainers, friends I have made during the course, my family friend but also myself.
